DNC Paving started in Barnsley in 2011 with a simple idea: build the parts of a driveway nobody sees as carefully as the parts everybody does.
Our story
Why the base comes first
Before DNC Paving existed, Denis spent years in groundwork: digging footings, laying drainage and building the bases that every other trade builds on. It’s unglamorous work, and it teaches one lesson early. Whatever sits on top only lasts as long as what’s underneath.
That lesson is why the firm exists. Again and again, Denis was asked to look at driveways that had failed in the same few ways: blocks sinking in the wheel tracks, puddles that never drained, edging drifting into the lawn. The surface was rarely the problem. The dig was shallow, the sub-base was thin or badly compacted, and nobody had planned where the rain would go.
So in 2011, Denis set up DNC Paving in Barnsley to build driveways and patios the slower, correct way: a full-depth dig, a compacted MOT Type 1 sub-base, edging bedded in concrete and drainage designed before the first block goes down. It takes a little longer and uses more stone. It’s also why we can put a 10-year guarantee in writing.
Today we work across all of Yorkshire, but the approach hasn’t changed. Denis still surveys the jobs, writes the quotes and stays your contact until the last joint is swept in. We’ve built 200+ driveways and patios that way, and we’d rather do fewer jobs properly than more jobs quickly.

Do the hidden work first
The dig, the sub-base and the drainage get the same attention as the pattern on top. Nobody will see them once the job is finished, which is exactly why they’re where corners usually get cut.

Say it plainly
If a resin driveway isn’t right for your home, or a cheaper option would do the job just as well, we’ll tell you. Our quotes use plain words and real measurements, not vague packages.

Leave the street as we found it
Neighbours told before we start, the pavement kept passable, the road swept every evening and the skip gone on time. And manhole covers raised to the new level, never buried under it.

You’ll deal with Denis and the same crew from start to finish. Ring with a question, even years later, and you’ll speak to people who were there when your drive was built.

If something we built isn’t right, we come back and fix it. That’s what the written guarantee is for, and we’d always rather hear about a problem early than late.

Claims are easy to make. These are the things you can ask us to prove, and we’ll gladly show you.
Insured for every job
We carry £10 million of public liability insurance, covering damage to your property or a neighbour’s while we work. We’re happy to send a copy of the certificate with your quote.
Written workmanship guarantee
Our workmanship is guaranteed for 10 years, in writing, with plain wording on what’s covered and how to claim. The details are on our process and guarantee page.
Registered waste carrier
We’re registered with the Environment Agency to carry waste. Everything we dig out goes to licensed recycling or disposal sites, and we keep the transfer notes for every load.
Materials from established merchants
Blocks, flags, aggregates and resin come from established UK builders’ merchants and manufacturers, with product data and care guidance to match. No unbranded job lots and no mystery leftovers.
Your rights, on paper
When you agree work with us at home or at a distance, you get the written information the Consumer Contracts Regulations require, including your 14-day right to cancel and a form to do it.
Tidy, safe sites
We protect doorsteps and walls, keep the work area fenced off from children and pets, and leave the site safe and swept at the end of every working day.
The team
The people on your drive
Your job is built by a small, settled crew that works together every week. Our policy is simple: the crew that starts your job finishes it, and we don’t pass work on to subcontractors. If a job ever needs a specialist, we’ll tell you who and why before you agree to anything.
Denis visits during the build to check levels, compaction and finish, and does the final walk-round with you. So the person who wrote your quote is the person who signs the job off, and the person you call if you ever need us.
